Genetics
The Genetics team at Children's Village provides counseling and consultation about hereditary conditions in a family or individual due to changes or differences in genes or chromosomes. Services are provided to families living in Central Washington. The genetics program at Children's Village is coordinated by Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital as part of a statewide system of regional genetic services.
Clinic visits aim to answer questions a family may have about a particular genetic or hereditary condition or diagnosis, such as:
- What is the condition?
- Why has it occurred?
- What are the chances that other people in the family will have the same condition?
- What treatment/monitoring is appropriate?
A family will meet with a genetic counselor before seeing a medical geneticist (a doctor).
A medical geneticist visits Children's Village 1 to 2 times each month.
Services are covered by medical coupons and most insurance policies.
Referrals can be made by medical providers, parents, or caseworkers by contacting Children's Village at 509-574-3260 or 1-800-745-1077.
