Strong Families

Strong Families (Familias Fuertes) is dedicated to strengthening and enhancing parenting skills, family relationships, and connections to the community, giving adults of all ages the skills to be strong role models.
The program requires a commitment of 13 three-hour sessions over seven weeks. The entire program is free, offers free childcare, and includes a parent manual for participants. Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.
Through collaborative efforts with other agencies, Strong Families classes are held at Central Washington Comprehensive Mental Health (CWCMH) sites in Sunnyside and Yakima, Children's Village, Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital, YMCA, McClure Elementary, Goldendale DSHS and others. The Strong Families program also offers classes at Safe Haven in Toppenish.
The Strong Families curriculum includes topics such as:
- Violence prevention
- Parent Training
- Improving communications skills
- Problem solving
- Anger management
- Positive discipline
- Family meetings
- How to talk to teens about tough subjects
Facilitator Training
Comprehensive Mental Health will be hosting a 5-day Facilitator Training this fall for individuals interested in becoming a facilitator for our Strong Families - Familias Fuertes program. We are particularly interested in recruiting new male and bi-lingual facilitators, but all applications will be accepted. The training will be held at Comprehensive's Yakima Center on October 10-14, 2011. See attached application for more details.
